Koppert’s New 125k Entomite-M: Boosting IPM Efficiency

Koppert’s Entomite-M (Stratiolaelaps scimitus) has long been a staple in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with popular 10k and 50k bottle sizes. Now, introducing an exciting addition to the family – the 125,000 size! Rather than simply increasing container size, we revisited our production system, significantly boosting concentration while maintaining the original formulations. The 125k now comes in the same-sized packaging as our 50k, providing key advantages, including a substantial reduction in freight costs. With a 2.5x concentration increase compared to the 50k, freight charges are notably reduced. This formulation also enhances compatibility with our Mini-Airbug and Airbug distribution devices, offering exciting labor-saving opportunities. The launch is set for December 2023, marking another innovative release for growers!

Entomite-M remains a crucial element in global IPM programs for controlling Fungus Gnats (Bradysia spp) and Western Flower Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis). Unlike nematodes such as Entonem (Steinernema feltiae), which excel in Fungus Gnat control but require weekly reapplication, Entomite-M stands out for its longevity in growing media. Growers rely on “Strats” to thrive for weeks or even months after a single introduction, offering stable protection in various crop production systems. For optimal results, introduce Entomite-M early in the crop cycle to prevent Fungus Gnat or Western Flower Thrips infestations. Keep moisture in mind, as they don’t endure well in waterlogged media. Koppert recommends waiting until mist propagation is completed before introduction for the best outcomes.
