BioConsortia, Inc., a leader in agricultural technology, recently showcased its latest achievements in microbial product development during an industry meeting in Campinas, Brazil. The company, known for discovering, designing, and out-licensing advanced microbial products aimed at reducing the ecological impacts of agriculture while ensuring crop productivity, presented new field testing results for its SOLVARIX bionematicide and shared promising findings from Brazilian trials of its ALWAYS-N seed treatments.

SOLVARIX Bionematicide: A Game-Changer for Brazilian Agriculture

During the BioControl and BioStimulant – LATAM meeting, Dr. Debora Wilk, BioConsortia’s Director of Plant Pathology, highlighted the strengths of SOLVARIX bionematicide, emphasizing its strong fit for the Brazilian market. SOLVARIX has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in controlling significant nematode pests in both the USA and Brazil, and it has delivered an average yield increase of 578 kilograms per hectare (8.6 bushels per acre) in corn trials. The product has proven highly consistent, enhancing yields in 91% of all trials and outperforming leading chemical nematicides in both yield contribution and consistency.

Dr. Wilk explained that SOLVARIX’s effectiveness aligns with the rapidly growing demand for bionematicides in Brazil. The market has expanded from 160 million Brazilian Reales in 2014 to 1.6 billion Reales in 2021, driven by the increasing threat of nematodes to key crops like corn, soybean, sugarcane, cotton, and vegetables, as well as a shortage of adequate chemical solutions.

Meeting the Needs of Brazilian Growers

BioConsortia’s CEO, Marcus Meadows-Smith, underscored the suitability of the company’s microbial seed treatment products for addressing nematode challenges in Brazilian agriculture. SOLVARIX, based on a patented strain of spore-forming microbes isolated through BioConsortia’s advanced AMS strain discovery system, boasts impressive shelf stability of two years, with additional on-seed stability for another two years. This stability not only simplifies grower handling and storage but also expands the potential market among Brazil’s seed companies.

BioConsortia is actively pursuing regulatory registrations and plans to launch SOLVARIX bionematicide through seed and crop protection partners in Brazil and the USA starting in 2026, with plans for global commercialization to follow.

Pioneering Microbial Solutions for a Sustainable Future

BioConsortia, Inc. is at the forefront of developing superior microbial products that protect plants, enhance fertility, and boost yields while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The company employs a unique Advanced Microbial Selection (AMS) process alongside its GenePro genomics and gene-engineering platform, enabling it to predict, design, and harness the natural power of microbes.

BioConsortia’s pipeline includes nitrogen-fixing microbes that can replace or reduce synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, biostimulants that enhance nutrient use efficiency, and biopesticides like bionematicides and biofungicides that protect crops from pests and diseases. The company is also developing products for post-harvest pathogen control, helping to reduce food waste across the distribution chain, retail stores, and homes.

Looking Ahead

BioConsortia’s latest results underscore its commitment to driving innovation in the agricultural biotechnology sector. As the company prepares for the commercial launch of SOLVARIX bionematicide and other groundbreaking microbial products, it continues to set new standards for efficacy, consistency, and environmental sustainability in agriculture. By leveraging advanced microbial technologies, BioConsortia aims to empower growers around the world with solutions that deliver superior performance and address the evolving challenges of modern agriculture.
